Choice Changes its Best Rate Guarantee For U.S. Residents!

These changes don't usually come as a big shock to me anymore, but this one really caught me by surprise (and it had to happen while I'm on vacation no less!)

Choice Hotels has now changed it's Best Rate Guarantee (one which affects ONLY residents living in the United States). For these folks, instead of receiving your first night free, your compensation is now a price match (matching the lower rate found on a competing site) plus a $50 Reward Card -- a gift sent to you within 6 weeks of your completed stay. You may spend this card anywhere in the U.S. or District of Columbia where VISA Debit cards are accepted.

Limit: One $50 Reward Card will be provided per name on the booking and/or household for any thirty-day period between booking check-in dates.

Just like you, I'll be acquainting myself with these new T&Cs today! More info to come, if needed. I also hope to be getting some fresh deals up before too long -- I've had a very busy past month, but I am still alive!

Wow! Not terrific news but thanks for the heads-up, David. Are existing Choice BRG reservations unaffected?

Do you think this will apply to existing bookings? I have a successful BRG claim for a stay in September, for example

This shouldn't affect any existing free night reservations, I wouldn't think. Call the BRG department if you have questions regarding BRGs that have already been approved, since nothing on this is mentioned in the T&Cs. I have plenty of questions myself - just learned about this change late last night!

Looks like Best Western now has the best BRG.

Any workarounds suggested?

Just had a successful BRG two weeks ago for a stay on 7/9. If this change only applies to US residents, that will be interesting, coz I have helped my friend BRG once, using her name, address & credit card in another country, but did not receive conf email after I submitted the claim.

I will focus on best western as well. I'm done with Choice now. Choice, thanks for the memories. I have removed Choice from my bookmarks.

Maybe focus on finding international choice hotel redemptions? I live in the UK and follow your blog.
